Dashboard Jesus

August 22, 2008

Gilberto, the first friend I made in San Juan. Goofy smile, dark features, distinct laugh. He is possibly the funniest person I have ever met and yet most people don't understand his sense of humor the way that I do.

He comes to my apartment with some magic up his sleeve. We enter a green mist marking the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Playing with my figurines of notable people was our joke for the night. i never let anyone take the circular paper protecting the sticky adhesive from the bottom of my dash board Jesus, but I let him. He makes me do crazy things I wouldn't have imagined doing before. He gave me the dashboard Jesus now with a sticky gluey bottom just begging for a dashboard to spend the rest of its Jesus dashboard life springing up and down with each movement of the car. That would have been ideal, but I am not an ideal person.

It is now on the wall, my dashboard Jesus somehow made it on the wall, and yet I don't remember putting it there, just a second ago it was in my hand. He springs up and down sideways, and asks us "Why is everything sideways?" Dashboard Jesus is dissapointed when he realizes that his dreams of being on a dashboard were all shattered with the peeling of the smooth white circular paper from underneath him. We laugh for what seems like hours.

A knock at the door. Let's stop laughing a be serious for a second. It is the neighbor trying to tell us something, probably that we are too loud. Action figure Moses cries from the living room floor "Gilberto Remember your Catholic Roots!" We make haste to the floor and gather our figurines fueled by Catholic guilt, don't forget Jesus on the wall.

Enough fun for now, let's watch the colorful animated video about a Unicorn, The Last Unicorn until we fall asleep.
